Becoming a B Corp: Our commitment to purpose, people and planet

just a bit excited

There is absolutely no way we are even trying to play this cool. Majestical are officially B Corp certified and we are shouting about it from our metaphorical roof top.

Back in early 2022, we were introduced to the notion of a B Corp by UK For Good founder Donna Okell and once this seed was planted, we couldn’t stop thinking about it. The more we researched and understood about the community, the more we wanted to be a part of this ‘business as a force for good’ movement. So, we decided to embark on our own B Corp journey and find out more about how, as a business and as individuals, we aligned with the B Corp criteria.

what does it mean to be a B Corp?

In an era where businesses are increasingly recognising their role in addressing global challenges, becoming a B Corp can stand as a beacon of hope. B Corps, or Benefit Corporations, are companies that prioritise purpose alongside profit. They undergo a rigorous assessment process to prove they meet high standards of social and environmental performance, transparency, and accountability.

Part of the community

The movement has gained traction globally, with thousands of businesses from various industries becoming certified B Corps. In fact, many of our conversation now begin with, ‘did you know so-and-so is a B Corp’ with a pang of excitement as we list reputable brands such as Innocent Drinks and Ben & Jerry’s as being part of our new community.

how does the B Corp work?

At the heart of becoming a B Corp lies the B Corp Impact Assessment. This comprehensive evaluation tool measures a company's performance in five key areas: governance, workers, community, environment, and customers. The assessment is designed to assess the company's impact on all stakeholders, rather than just shareholders, and provides a roadmap for improvement.

As we went through the assessment, it became clear there were a lot of areas we were already aligned with and some we needed to improve on if we wanted to take our impact seriously. However, just going through the process helped us massively expand our knowledge and find better ways of doing things to create a more positive impact.

The certification process requires a minimum score of 80 out of 200 points and involves a review by B Lab to ensure accuracy and transparency. Majestical scored 87.5 points, which we’re pretty proud of for our initial assessment. B Lab will reassess us and all certified businesses every three years, which is an opportunity for us to improve our score and have an even greater impact.

why becoming a B Corp made perfect sense

Becoming a B Corp is more than just a certification; it's a commitment to a better way of doing business and we knew this was something Majestical needed to do.

Katie Nuttall, our Founder and Chief Dreamer said “Going through the B Corp assessment made perfect sense to us. The more we understood the community, the more we recognised how well we were already aligned with the values and ethos of the movement: using business as a force for good. This recognition is something I’m incredibly proud to have achieved and we look forward to growing our impact locally.

For us, we have always been passionate about creating content that engages audiences in the right way, and now we have opened the door to more forward thinking, purpose driven brands that we cannot wait to collaborate with. From our specialist charity video offering through to our e-learning expertise, engaging and inspiring audiences is just what we love to do!
