Creating with the climate in mind
What the hack did we do?
So back in May we received a phone call from our friends at Carbon Kapture, the social enterprise with a big mission: to regenerate our oceans and fight climate change. Having cooked up a big idea, they wondered if we’d be up for being #ReelKind and pitching in. “We’re planning a hackathon” they told us. “Hold the phone” we replied “what the hack is a hackathon??!”
Finding fresh talent, solving big problems
Turns out a hackathon is a pretty special sprint like brainstorming session that takes place over a number of hours or days. A group of uber talented and intelligent folk are brought together to work individually or in groups. A big problem or challenge is set and each group has a specified amount of time to smush their collective intelligence together to come up with some remarkably creative solutions.
Radical challenge, innovation and opportunity
Howard, Chief Kelper at Carbon Kapture, dreamt of bringing 25 of the best eco-conscious graduates together to answer some big questions around ocean regeneration and climate change. Collaborating and presenting innovative solutions to an audience of judges and industry professionals, with a chance to win some awesome prizes and to showcase their talents to potential employers too.
25 graduates, 1 challenge, and a whole heap of prep work needed to make this 7 hour stream as amazing as we possibly could.
Well of course we wanted in!
Getting everyone we needed on board
After finding out as much as we could about Howards ideas, we came up with a few of our own. And in the spirit of opening up graduate opportunities, we reached out to some graduate friends of our own and asked if they’d like to get involved. With our support, the amazingly talented Sophie Foxley and Amy Tomlinson created several short films to help tell the Carbon Kapture story and reinforce the values and mission at the centre of this social enterprise.
Wait, how did you come up with that idea ??!!
It really was a fantastic collaboration and opportunity for all the graduates and we’re so proud of what was achieved by everybody on the day. There was such energy throughout the stream, with some fantastically creative ideas and impactful solutions presented.
